About

Welcome to the AESOP-SFP PhD and Young Professionals webpage!

The AESOP-Sustainable Food Planning group aspires to improve the integration of PhD students and young professionals and to grow the “next generation” of experts in the field of sustainable food planning.

Part of this intention is a formalized PhD-Young Professionals (PhD-YP) group to acknowledge the achievements of early career scholars in SFP and foster networking among them. It brings together not only academics but also policy-makers and practitioners at the beginning of their career.

This PhD-YP group organizes regular exchanges over the year:

1. Side events are regularly organized at the annual conferences (workshops, field trips, networking), for instance in 2010 (Brighton), 2014 (Leeuwarden) and 2015 (Torino). A side event is planned at the 8th conference in Coventry in 2017 (the day prior the conference), please contact us if you feel like joining the organizing team! Please send your inquiry at radu.giurgiu@outlook.com.

2. Other PhD-YP workshops are organized among young researchers over the year to present work in progress, meet other researchers and exchange knowledge. The first one was held in Berlin, March 23-24, 2017 with 26 participants. A second one is planned in 2018 in Lisbon.

3. Free webinars are organized regularly (3 so far, in 2017) on topics of interest for PhD students and Young Professionals (e.g. action research, publishing in scientific journals). The webinars are organized in collaboration with LE:NOTRE Institute. Please tell us what you would like to deal with in future webinars.

4. Direct exchanges and interactions are facilitated through two online platforms: a Facebook group and a LinkedIn group. With these platforms, we want to stimulate interdisciplinary, international research conversations and social networking. You are welcome to join them. These platforms are the right place to circulate information about training, networking, jobs opportunities, and also about publications and other resources you want to share. It may also be used as a feedback channel, to raise issues/problems faced by young and early career researchers and professionals in the field of Sustainable Food Planning.
