food city society

Short description:

The growing appetite of cities is one of the greatest future challenges. The need for providing safe, healthy and sustainable food to urban populations is urgent across both the global North and South. There is no set menu for meeting this appetite, but comparing and contrasting across different geographical contexts provides interesting insights in how people address food-related challenges in their daily lives. Dr. Sigrid Wertheim-Heck will present results and analyses from her fieldwork in Hanoi, Vietnam and Almere, the Netherlands, focusing on region-based food provision and on doing evidence-based research. How can we build an evidence base to assess the effects of the policy options available at the local and regional level and to monitor and inform food system policies?
